The Corozal Daily has received an unofficial report of an employee of the Pueblo Nuevo Ferry drowning in the New River early this morning. At about 2:10 a.m. March 13th, 2014 two employees of the Pueblo Nuevo Ferry, 51 year old Artemio Vivas of Corozal Town and his assistant Rolando Alcoser, were crossing a BEL vehicle en-route to Progresso Village from Corozal Town.
According to an unofficial report, Artemio Vivas slipped from off the barge into the New River after some rain had fallen on the barge. From all accounts Vivas was not a swimmer and all efforts that were made to rescue him were unsuccessful. His body was found about 7:25 a.m. this morning.
The Corozal Daily is awaiting an official police report on this incident.
